Strategy Implementation
On 20 February 2008 the strategy was officially launched by Mayor Paul Pisasale and Rachel Nolan MP, representing the Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, Paul Lucas MP.
Since the launch of the strategy a number of significant milestones have been achieved as part of the strategy implementation:
- A vision to take Ipswich into the new era.
- An integrated strategy and action plan for the entire City Centre area.
- 17 priority catalytic projects.
- 31 key strategies and 158 actions.
- Identification of 8 key revitalisation areas within the City Centre.
- A detailed master plan for the 8 key revitalisation areas which will guide land use, transport and quality of buildings and public space design.
- Announcement by the Premier on 3 March 2008 that the Queensland Government will spend $5 million to kick-start detailed planning for a transport hub to replace the existing transit centre, rail station and Bell Street interchange (Ipswich Multifunction Project).
- Agreement between the Department of Infrastructure and Planning and Ipswich City Council to initiate a Strategy Implementation Team to oversee and guide the implementation of the strategy.
- Commenced drafting planning scheme amendments to incorporate the outcomes as identified in the master plan. Final scheme amendments will commence upon finalisation of planning work associated with the transport hub.
- Announcement by the Premier to expand the successful Ipswich Workshop Railway Museum to create a tourism precinct with a conference centre and accommodation facilities as one of ten identified proposed iconic ‘catalyst’ proposals, as part of the Queensland Government's 10-year Queensland Tourism Strategy.
To date the strategy has delivered
New Transport Hub - Ipswich Multifunction Development Project
The Ipswich Multifunction Project is based on delivering a new transport hub to replace the existing transit centre, rail station and Bell Street interchange
Detailed work is being undertaken to inform the preparation of a detailed business case and competitive process to seek private sector submissions for the Ipswich multifunction development project including a rail centre redevelopment and related transit facilities.

Strategic Road Network Plan
Ipswich City Council and the Queensland Government are working together to undertake and oversee the formulation of Phase 1 of a Strategic Road Network Plan, with a particular focus to identify the most effective staged development of key road network improvements in alignment with the 17 catalytic projects identified within the Strategy.
North Ipswich Railyards Precint
Ipswich City Council, the Queensland Government and key stakeholders are working together to facilitate the development of a detailed precinct master plan for this key catalytic site as identified within the Strategy.

Ipswich Planning Scheme amendments
The realisation of the vision outlined in the Ipswich Regional Centre Strategy and the illustrated Master Plan requires amendments to the existing Ipswich Planning Scheme. Final scheme amendments will commence upon finalisation of planning work associated with the transport hub.
Ipswich City Square
On 22 October 2008, Mayor Paul Pisasale announced of Ipswich City Council’s intention to purchase Ipswich City Square. The Ipswich City Square is considered a key site in the revitalisation of Ipswich city centre and is identified as catalytic project #14 of the 17 catalytic projects identified for revitalisation and development.
